Back to Clyde

After our few days in Kaikoura we made our way back to Clyde, spending some time in Christchurch, Ashburton, and Geraldine catching up with family and friends.  We were very close to getting caught up in the shooting drama in Ashburton on Monday morning, wondering why there were so many police about as we drove along Chambers Ave.  A very sad event.

After a couple of nights with Mum and Dad we headed to Omarama for the night. We had enjoyed the Hot Tubs there 18months ago and we thought we would treat ourselves to end our 'holiday'.  We were able to park over night in their car park which meant once we had soaked in the tubs for a couple of hours our accommodation was only metres away.  These tubs are truly a treat, though we were a bit surprised to learn that the cost had risen considerably. I am not sure Stephen would have been quite so keen to part with the cash had he known!!!!

The drive down to Clyde was both easy and very scenic. There is just something very dramatic about the landscape in this area. Even Lake Dunstan was at its best with glass like conditions between Bendigo and Pisa Moorings providing picture perfect reflections. Unfortunately we weren't able to take a photo as there were no suitable places for us to pull over in the bus.

It is lovely to get back to our base here in Clyde, to spread out and enjoy a bit more space. We have a couple of trips planned - one to Invercargill and one to Punakaiki before we head to Australia for five weeks that includes a family wedding in Western Australia.   The wallets are shut tight as we move into savings mode to allow this to happen.  Spring in Central Otago is definitely the place to be to do this, with all the blossoms, and clear sunny days.

Travellingroma is going to take a break from regular posts for a couple of months but will be back up and running again once we get to Australia on 19 November.
