Christmas Lights at the Hunter Valley Gardens

We were quite excited to be able to get the opportunity to see these Christmas lights. We had heard good reports about how spectacular they were, and as were walking around the gardens during our day time visit we could see just how many thousands of lights were wired up and ready to shine.

After the thunderstorm cleared a perfect evening eventuated. We were two of around 2000 who chose this particular evening to visit. Evidently a big night can be up to 4000 so we were pleased that we weren't literally squeezed in. The gates opened at 6:30 pm for entry into the gardens but it isn't until 7:30 that the lights are switched on. Fortunately it gets dark in this part of the world a lot earlier than in southern parts of New Zealand. There we have to wait until at least 10pm to see the effects of any Christmas lights. Christmas lights are very magical for all ages but it is children that seem to gain the most enjoyment.

There are many different displays linked around the gardens and each year new displays are added. Some of the many scenes are Story Book, Mega trees, 12 Days of Christmas, the Nativity Scene, Sydney Skyline, Candy Land and the North Pole Scene.
