Trip down the Putty Road to Medlow Bath

We enjoyed our stay in the Casuarina Motel in the Hunter Valley. It was run by a very friendly expat NZer from New Plymouth. The unit was very large and furnished with a oriental theme. Everything was very clean and the bed was comfy. We certainly slept well after all the walking and heat from the day before.

When deciding how to return to the Blue Mountains I turned to the mapping system on my iPad and one of the choices it gave us was the Putty Road. This meant we could avoid the Pacific Highway and Motorways through Sydney. A little research told us that it was a sealed road all the way and about the same time and distance. So the Putty Road it was.

It was a lovely drive through forestry, National Parks and some farmland, and other than a couple spots with roadworks, we saw very little other traffic. We have since heard that the one drawback with this road is if there is an accident delays can be lengthy as there are no detours. Fortunately that wasn't an issue.

The road took us back onto the Bells Line of Road where we got ourselves a bit of lunch from a small country cafe. It was so pleasant we were able to sit outside under a tree to enjoy it.

Last year when we were staying in Medlow Bath we had done a trip to The Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens and we were keen to revisit them in a different season. The Bells Line goes passed the entrance so we stopped off and enjoyed a couple of hours walking the extensive tracks and viewing the plantings. The afternoon was extremely hot when we started but we are discovering that a typical afternoon weather pattern seems to be an afternoon thunderstorm. While we were sitting on the terrace enjoying a late afternoon coffee we watched a magnificent 'light' show over the distance hills.
