Birthdays all around

This week has been spent celebrating birthdays.  Stephen had a birthday on Wednesday and he got to have have two celebrations. First on Sunday night with friends.  Tamar and Shirley were over from Greymouth and staying with Jill and Robin. They cooked us a lovely meal, and Tamar had baked a birthday cake.  It was a lovely get together.

On Wednesday night we headed out to Lincoln where my sister had cooked us another birthday tea. Doug and Tracy joined us so it was a great family get together. This time I had baked a dessert cake (one pot Spiced Apple Cake which is REALLY easy to make. I make half the recipe as I don't have the big cake tin required and it still works well.   One pot spiced apple cake)  and Barbara and Keith had supplied a banana to hold the candles.

Sunday lunch was for yet another birthday celebration. This time our friend Caroline who has just turned 70. Her family had organised a surprise celebration lunch at Melton Winery: Melton Winery
Caroline was suitably surprised as she was only expecting a small family lunch. It had been quite a mission, on many fronts and particularly for Barrie, to keep her in the dark. Even we had been part of the deception as we had shared an evening meal at their place on Friday.

It is great to be able to celebrate milestones in our lives. As the quote on our the fridge magnet says
"Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that people who have the most live the longest.'
