York

Monday morning was the start of our stage of our UK trip. Jessica drove is into town to collect our rental car and then it was back to the house to pack it with all our camping gear and luggage. It looked a lot and it all fitted easily into the Renault Elf. Except when we stopped for our lunch I checked our phone only to see that Jessica had been trying to contact us as we had left a container full of bits and pieces behind! There was nothing we couldn't replace easily and it will all be able to be used another time. Just a nuisance.

Our destination for the day was an Eco friendly camping ground north of York so we decided to visit York on the way. What a beautiful city even though we had a drizzly but muggy afternoon to see it. We parked the car in a Park and Ride on the outskirts which is definitely the way to go.

The city centre is pedestrian friendly and well signed for tourists to find their way around. We walked our way around past all the major points of interest including York Minster, down the narrow cobbled streets, up the Tower, into the Museum and along parts of the city wall soaking up the atmosphere as we went.

A coffee and couple of hours later we decided it was time to return to the car, get some supplies for tea at the Tesco Superstore we spotted by the Park and Ride, and head to the Hideaway.

The directions to the camping ground were spot on and we arrived at this idyllic spot 15 miles north of the city. It is in the corner of a working farm and is set up in such a way to experience the country life. It took us an hour or so to set up camp (not bad as it is three years since we have set this tent up) and we set back to enjoy the evening. We had thought that we may have had to endure a wet night as we had driven through a lot of rain but no, we were lucky with only a brief shower after we went to bed.
